Ali and I had the pleasure of meeting a couple of chaps by the name of Mark & Iris the other night and getting a guided tour around their base camp (an oddly placed castle in the middle of a large roundabout in Deptford.) and thought the project he was involved with needed a little shout out.
Mark & Iris are directors of the "Ilderton Motor Vehicle Project" and have been providing opportunities for the under priviliged for some 20+ years. The project was due to be closed back in the 90's when Mark refused to see such a great project be dismantled.
IMP programmes Include accredited pre-vocational training in car, go-karts and, motorcycle maintenance, personal development, numercy literacy and life skills. Students are taken outside of London for day events such as off-road motor-cycling to be inspired and gain experience. Students are invited to become part of the team and work-experience is offered to a selection of candidates.
Mark's hospitality was second to none and he even had time to fix my blown front light, in spite of his tea at home! (Turns out changing a front light in a Mondeo involves pulling out the whole battery compartment and relay network!). It was evident that he has a lot of time for people and puts every last breath into the development of his students.
IMP rely on the kind nature of others and we would like to encourage you to conside donating your car to the cause once it expires its use at home. Donated cars are put to good use as training vehicles and garage projects. IMP offer a free collection service so theres no hassle for you.
